Disclaimer: older models of this pen were called Sharpie Fine Point Marker Pens and had slightly different packaging. Despite the new name and packaging, the pens perform the same.
There’s nothing I love more than a good writing utensil. As someone who has fully embraced technological organizational methods, I will happily admit that sometimes, the pen and paper method is downright therapeutic. Enter: Sharpie Medium Point Art Pens. These babies are a staple in my pencil case, and at this point, I use them almost exclusively.
The Overview
Overall, I would absolutely recommend Sharpie Medium Point Art Pens not only to a friend, but to whoever is willing to even pretend to listen to me rave about them. I first started using Sharpie Medium Point Art Pens in the beginning of college. They were great for note taking, and they allowed me to color code. If you haven’t noticed by now, office supplies and organization are kind of my passion. I know, I know—really deep stuff. The ink flows easily across the page, allowing for smooth writing without the cringe-inducing potential for skipping or bleeding. I have used these pens on different surfaces, and it’s important to note that they perform the best on lined or printer paper. While they are marker pens, they are not like the typical Sharpie Marker that will show up and stay put on a glossy surface.
Sharpie Medium Point Art Pens come in a variety of colors, and I have tried them all! Like I said…passion. The colors offered include black, red, blue, violet, and orange, just to name a few. Some colors have a bolder ink than others, so be aware that colors like turquoise and orange might not be as vivid blue or black. Whether you’re note-taking, doodling, journaling, or writing in what comes across as a sad, handwritten book a la Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids, Sharpie Pens will have your back.
The Details
Sharpie Medium Point Art Pens feature a .5mm ballpoint and a non-retractable tip. The ink is water resistant, which makes any kind of liquid casualties (I’m looking at you, “I drink wine while I grade papers” crowd) a non-issue. Your paper might be crinkled and useless, but your ink will look brand new! While the old packaging (featured in the pictures in this post) features a black cap, newer models include color-coded caps that make it easy to quickly grab the exact marker you want without the fuss of sorting through a bunch of different pens.
The Bottom Line
As you know by now, I love Sharpie Medium Point Art Pens. They are versatile enough for all kinds of uses, and I would be lying if I said I don’t have them laying around my house, office, and purse because they are all I ever use. Stores like Target, Walmart, and Staples sell packs of three, five, and beyond, so go get yourself a pack and give them a try. Pricing starts around $3, depending on your store location, so joining the club of Sharpie Pen lovers won’t even break the back. And let me tell you, it’s quite blissful over here. If you’re still one the fence, here’s my rating breakdown:
Overall Rating: 9.5/10
Smoothness: 10/10 These are not only great for note taking and list making, but they also rock for drawing because they write so smoothly.
Ink pigmentation: 9/10 They lose a point because some colors aren’t as pigmented as others.
Pen life: 10/10 I’ve had some of my pens for years, and they continue to perform like the day I bought them.
Overall performance: 10/10 Sharpie Medium Point Art Pens won’t bleed through paper, and they dry quickly enough that smudging is never a problem. The ink also stands up against fading, so your notes and pictures will stay looking fresh and clean over time.
