All of us drummers know that sticks make the biggest difference when playing.
All of us drummers know that sticks make the biggest difference when playing. A lot of non-musicians generalize drumsticks and create the notion that all sticks do the same thing, which is hit the drum. But little do they know, sticks play a big role in creating some of the most beautiful sounds a drum can produce. As a drummer for over ten years, I have gone through many sticks; some broke, some wore out and some I still have today. But I will tell you, these 5A Woodrow Guitar Drumsticks I will keep forever. Not only because they are customized with my favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles, but because they perform greatly.
I play a lot of R&B, Rock, Funk, Soul and Go-go music. In order to produce the sounds, I desire, it is important that I play with sticks that will allow me to do so. That is why I love playing with my custom Woodrow Guitar Drumsticks. Note that all the excitement does not only derive the pair of sticks being reviewed, but also the fact that Woodrow Guitar allows you to choose any size, any material and any design when customizing your drum sticks.
For individual and music preferences, my Woodrow Guitar Drumsticks are made from maple wood and they are a size 5A. Sticks made from maple wood are 10-15 percent lighter than those made of hickory and oak. Music that requires fast playing is easier to play when playing with sticks that are light in weight. Despite their large diameter, they are not heavy sticks because of the maple wood used to make them.
One of my biggest peeves with drum sticks is that they swell up very fast and easy if they are not moisture resistant. Although I do not normally have sweaty palms, there are times I play in venues with high temperatures and my hand will begin to sweat more than normal. One does not have to be a drummer to know that using drumsticks with wet hands is not easy or pleasant. To avoid the feeling of slippery and swelling sticks, I customized these sticks with grip stick. Grip stick makes the sticks moisture resistant and reduces slippage. Which is great, because when I am into my groove or playing with my eyes closed I do not have to worry about my sticks disappearing or greeting someone unexpectedly in the crowd.
The wooden oval tips, convex shoulders and cylinder shaft on the sticks really help me rock out. Wooden oval tips are great for various genres of music, but they specifically do great things for the genres of music I love playing the most. The tips provide me with a one of a kind rebound from the snare drum and toms. My sticks bounce back and up from my snare like a kid on a trampoline. Such rebounds create beautiful drum rolls around the drum set. Wooden tips also create different sounds depending on how the stick is rotated. The best things to do when playing with wooden tips is take time to listen and pay close attention to the different sounds they will allow you to produce. If you do not like a variation of sounds when hitting drums and cymbals, I would recommend that you get nylon tips with your custom sticks. Nylon tips also last longer if you play hard on the cymbals and cowbells.
The convex shoulders provide me with all of the sounds I seek while playing the drums, high hats and cymbal. If I am playing along with a conga player I will play hard in the pocket. The convex shoulders produce a loud sound when I hit them against the shoulder of the high hat opposed to playing on the top of the high hat with the wooden tips. Playing with wooden tips sound beautiful when playing along with keyboard, woodwind and string instruments but not so much with other percussion instruments, especially if they are being played loudly.
The cylinder shaft residing below the convex shoulders is also something to brag about. So far (3 weeks), these shafts have been able to take anything I throw at them. Playing genres of music such as funk, reggaetón, Go-go and Rock, power strokes are needed to spice the sound up and give it that sound I like, the one that goes “Pow!” The rim shots that these shoulders produce will bring out the beast in a drummer as they wake you up and say, “lets rock baby!” The shafts also produce a great “1,2,3” to get a band ready to jam. My fellow band members get excited when I count them in with my Woodrow Guitar custom drumsticks.
The very bottom of the stick is amazing to. You are probably thinking, “Wow, he even has something to say about the bottom of the stick?” The answer is yes. The butt-end on these sticks are outstanding. Don’t be afraid or too traditional to flip the sticks, flip the script a little. The butt-end on these sticks can create special drum effects along with a more full and powerful tone than the tip. Don’t believe me? Try it yourself when you order a pair.
Don’t forget to customize your Woodrow Guitar drum sticks with your favorite sports team, branch of military, state flag etc. Customizing your drumsticks is what makes them yours. More times than less, when you are in a music store or shopping online, there are multiple pairs of the same stick. Which is good because instrument manufacturers should make their products available to everyone. But have you ever thought to yourself and said, “these sticks are nice but I want a pair of drumsticks hat has me painted all over them.” “Me” meaning things that represent you, you like, and make you smile.
Take me and my sticks for example. When deciding how I wanted to customize my drumsticks the first thing question I asked myself was, “What matches my love for drumming?” Well, I have been a committed Eagles fan my whole life. Ever since a child I have dreamed about the eagles winning a Super Bowl for the first time. I cheer hard for them every year as I watch every game dressed in my Eagles fan gear. My love for football matches my love for drumming so that is why I chose to customize my sticks with the Eagles. The Philadelphia Eagles and their logo is something that represents me, makes me smile and I like.
For your custom Woodrow Guitar drumsticks, the design is just as important as the stick itself. Think deeply and choose carefully to create a one of a kind stick. And last but not least, Rock out!
